Why did Jeff Buckley change his name?

Jeffrey Scott Buckley born November 17, 1966, was an American singer, composer, and guitarist who was born Scott Moorhead. Buckley established a following in the early 1990s by performing cover songs at East Village, and Manhattan venues such as Sin-é, while progressively focusing more on his own material after a decade as a studio guitarist in Los Angeles.

From 1990 to 1991, Buckley shared a room with actress Brooke Smith. Buckley met artist Rebecca Moore during a tribute concert to his father, Tim Buckley, in April 1991, and the pair dated until 1993. This romance inspired his album Grace and prompted his permanent relocation to New York. Buckley was in a relationship with Elizabeth Fraser of the Cocteau Twins from 1994 until 1995.

They collaborated on a duet, “All Flowers in Time Bend Towards the Sun,” which was never officially released. In 1994, Buckley began dating musician Joan Wasser. He allegedly proposed to her shortly before his death.

Why did Jeff Buckley change his name?

‘Scottie’ was reared by his mother and stepfather, Ron Moorhead, before formally changing his name to Jeff Buckley in the aftermath of Tim, his biological father’s early death from a heroin overdose at the age of 27.
